The GROUND-BREAKING CEREMONY for the Cook Care Center Expansion was held June 9th. It was a lovely, sunny day to celebrate the $8.5 million project to expand and improve the Care Center, formerly known as the Nursing Home.

This “Caring For The Community” project will add over 17,000 square feet of space and also a little over 10,000 square feet of the existing space will be remodeled. Our current facility contains 28 beds in 12 double rooms and a four bed ward. There are no private rooms. The new facility will have all private rooms containing bath, shower, recliner, sleeper-sofa, tv, closets and a ceiling lift. There will be many other amenities to make it more homey and have areas for private family gatherings, dinners and such.

The administrator, Teresa Debevec, welcomed the assembled group which included some of the current residents and their family members, dignitaries, staff members and other interested area residents. She presented information about the facility and thanked so many who were and are involved in this expansion.  Much work has been done to get this expansion program to this point. Many hours of paper work, procuring funding, working with the city, IRRB, architects, engineering and more. The staff has been working very hard, caring for the residents, residents moved to other rooms, some interior demolition has been done, and there are many changes to prepare for the major work which will begin soon.

Dr. Harold Johnston, mayor of our City of Cook, gave remarks and also thanked the Cook/Orr Health Care District. Other speakers were Don Potter of the Cook/Orr Healthcare District Board, Board member Julian Broznowski and State Representative Jason Metsa.

The Cook Community Hospital opened in 1959, a clinic was constructed attached to the hospital in 1972(?)  The clinic also had dental offices there, now the dental clinic is located in downtown Cook. The “Nursing Home” was constructed onto the hospital in 1964, This current expansion will be the fourth expansion to our facilities. There have been many improvements and updates to our very busy small town hospital, clinic and Care Center. We also have an active and trained ambulance crew who’s members also give of their time. Our medical center serves a large area. It will be exciting to watch this next chapter unfold! The dental clinic is located at 12 S. River Street.

Our current doctors are; Bruce Garbisch, M.D.,  Matthew Holmes, M.D., Harold Johnston, M.D., Josie Norberg Lopez, M,D., Nicholas Vidor, M.D., Wendy Long, CFNP and Emily Hadrava, CFNP.
Our current dentists are; Richard Dvorak, DDS, Kathleen Mattison, DDS, Ehab Rezk, DDS, Timothy Sprouls, DDS, Duane Sushoreba, DDS
