The Great Armistice Day Blizzard of 1940

11 November 1940, this day I was four years, four months and twenty one days old, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I best remember standing looking over the front seat and only seeing the trees along the road. I also remember shopping in a store in Mora, Minnesota for coloring books and scissors. Also looking out the second story window of the hotel room and how the wind was blowing the snow. I am so glad my Father was such a good driver and that he got us to safety that day.

Back in 1985, four years before my Dad passed away I asked him to record that Armistice Day Blizzard trip in his own hand writing. When I picked up this record at my Parents home at Grantsburg, Wisconsin I also brought a new snow shovel to trade for the shovel Dad bought on November 11, 1940. I still have this shovel and it is retired from moving snow.
