It's ice skating season, and the ice rink at Doug Johnson Recreational Park is in full swing.  There were plenty of kids enjoying the "warm" temperatures today (it got up to 30 above!) as they skated around the rink.  A couple of boys told me they come to the rink every day to play hockey.  Now that the Community Center is open, there is a wonderful "warming shack" in which to put on your skates and to get warm when it's cold outisde.  I've listed the Community Center hours below.

When I was growing up in the 70's, the ice skating rink was located where the new Cook Water Tower now stands.  We used to walk down there on Saturdays to go skating with our friends.  There were two rinks then.  The main, full-sized rink with the boards around it was usually used by all the kids playing hockey.  The smaller rink, without boards, was just right size for the younger kids who were learning and didn't want to get in the way of the hockey players.

My girls have really enjoyed getting on to the ice this winter and improving there skating skills.  Thanks to the Community Center staff for providing a warm place and beautiful environment when we're coming and going.
