COOK’S ANNUAL MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM
Monday, May 30, 2016

by Muriel Simonson

A beautiful, sunny day greeted those assembled downtown for the parade as the VFW, Scouts, and others marched to the bridge. A ceremony was then held at the bridge to remember servicemen buried at sea, at which time the Girl Scouts scattered the flowers in the river, followed by a gun salute by the VFW Firing Squad, and taps were played. People then assembled at the Cook Cemetery. The community band, directed by Bailey Conger, played several patriotic songs as the audience sang along. Darrell Lindgren gave the introductions; Rev. Drew Braun was the clergy for the day. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, the Boy Scouts placed the wreath for the unknown soldiers, and the gun salute by the Firing Squad and Taps concluded the ceremony.

Thank you to the VFW for again organizing and presiding at this event. Thank you to all past and present men and  women and their families for serving our country.
